Judy Hawkins, Carol Keiser, MC Noyes

December 16  ~ February 11

3rd Friday Gallery Night December 16, January 20

5-7PM, LIVE at 6PM @canalstreetartgallery

Canal Street Art Gallery presents the LIFE: Judy Hawkins, Carol Keiser, MC Noyes show, a collection of artworks from three artists with life as a commonality in each of their practices. Judy Hawkins finds that learning something new with each experience is as pertinent to life as it is to putting brush to canvas. Carol Keiser’s practice is to follow the life of each painting, letting the process dictate the final direction. MC Noyes’s work represents a visualization tool important to the artist's daily life.

The LIFE: Judy Hawkins, Carol Keiser, MC Noyes show opens December 16th and is on view to the public through February 11th. Join the Gallery on 3rd Friday Gallery Night in Historic Downtown Bellows Falls from 5-7pm, December 16th, to celebrate and meet the artists. All Gallery events are free and open to the public.

“Over the last few years, I have thought about how important it is to me to continually learn something new whenever I put brush and color to canvas, each new experience bringing a new perspective and vocabulary to my work, not unlike life. Recent paintings explore water in varied dimensions, from the pond bottom through layers of water, to surface tension and reflection, to water splashes and ripples. I am in awe of nature. It never ceases to amaze and inspire me.” -Judy Hawkins

“I may start with an image from out there, but through the process of painting and re-working, the painting takes on a life of its own, and at that point the painting is directing the process and demanding its own direction. It has a life of its own, and I follow that life.” -Carol Keiser

“The concept of my Water Way series is using bubbles on the surface of flowing water as a visualization tool to detach the mind from intrusive thoughts and bring it back to the present. This visualization was inspired by my past paintings, drawings, and studies of water. This series of paintings is a representation of this imagery. For these paintings I have observed water which is deep enough to see no bottom and only show reflection and shadow. The fast current is moving away from the viewer's perspective, up the tall vertical canvases to an unseen horizon.” -MC Noyes
