Biography

CORINNE GREENHALGH Recent Oil Paintings

Corinne Greenhalgh shows recent paintings from her prolific body of work.  Working in oils, Greenhalgh pursues compositions using strong geometry with defined boundaries, broken by gestural patterns of less, if at all, defined shapes.  The geometric shapes often focus on bright, but never quite primary colors, and are intersected with patterns and textures of subtly graduated warm and cool values.  Greenhalgh’s paintings achieve a precarious balance with the use of geometry, color, brushstroke, and pattern.  The artist finds this balance through careful consideration, knowledge, and an unyielding talent to create solely for the sake of creating.

On Embroidered Found Linen

Corinne Greenhalgh works in the mediums of both oils and embroidery.  Greenhalgh’s work in oils is an exploration of texture and color, shapes and lines; often alluding to an abstract psychological quest and struggle.

The artist’s works of embroidered text on found linens offers a more literal subject focusing on cultural commentary.  The artist finds these hand embroidered antique linens intent on saving them so as to honor the cultural heritage of the women who time-consumingly made these household items.  Using the subject matter of the embroideries themselves, along with the artist’s observations on current cultural and political events; Greenhalgh stitches text on these left-behind linens to forward them into modernity.
